Released yesterday, the Pew Research Center survey entitled "Muslim Americans: Middle Class and Mostly Mainstream" sheds enormous light on the social and political landscape of this very important religious minority in America.
Based on interviews with 1,050 Muslim Americans, the Pew Study found them to be diverse, largely integrated, happy with their lives, sharing core values with other Americans, and embracing the American dream. The vast majority also do not see a conflict between being a devout Muslim and living in a modern society. Nearly three-quarters agree that most people who want to get ahead in the U.S. can make it if they work hard.

The Pew survey is the most extensive survey to date and flies in the face of simplistic, stereotypical images of Islam and Muslims which dominate the mainstream media coverage. On the whole, the results indicate a high degree of Muslim integration into American society, as well as their unequivocal condemnation of terrorism and rejection of extremism:
