Turkish Company Buys Godiva Chocolates

advertisement

Berks County, PA - Godiva Chocolatier Inc. will become one of the largest Berks County employers to be foreign owned when its buyer, a Turkish food maker, completes the sale next year.

Campbell Soup Co. announced Thursday that it agreed to sell Godiva to Yildiz Holding A.S. for $850 million. Godiva had been for sale since August.

Godiva's plant in Exeter Township is the North American headquarters and only manufacturing plant in the U.S. for the upscale chocolate maker. About 500 people work there.

Campbell said Yildiz has no U.S. operations. Godiva will become part of Yildiz's Ülker Group, Istanbul, Turkey.
