Turkish Company Buys Godiva Chocolates

advertisement

Berks County, PA - Godiva Chocolatier Inc. will become one of the largest Berks County employers to be foreign owned when its buyer, a Turkish food maker, completes the sale next year.

Campbell Soup Co. announced Thursday that it agreed to sell Godiva to Yildiz Holding A.S. for $850 million. Godiva had been for sale since August.

Godiva's plant in Exeter Township is the North American headquarters and only manufacturing plant in the U.S. for the upscale chocolate maker. About 500 people work there.

Campbell said Yildiz has no U.S. operations. Godiva will become part of Yildiz's Ülker Group, Istanbul, Turkey.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

There are a lot of good chocolates in Turkey but there's always room for more.

The list of foreign-owned companies in that one little county in PA is interesting.

Did you send a big box of chocolates for the Holiday for the Newsviners to enjoy? If so, where is it located?

Dennis,

Actually, you are not the only Newsviner in Turkey. I can't tell you who the others are, but according to my Google Analytics, there are occasionally others.

Well, great! Now you are up to 3 possible Vinemeeters. If everyone brings chocolate, I think you can count on MarilyL, too.

Dennis,

Must be a lot of rich Viners. The danger of a Turkey vinemeet is that it won't be over in a day or so. You might be wishing for the visitors to scram after day two. On the plus side, the visitors have their own personal guide to the country.

The only expensive part is the air fare. It's cheap, once you get here.

You might be wishing for the visitors to scram after day two.

There's a lot to see here. Though you can never see it all, it could be a lot of fun. take longer then a couple of days, though.
