NEW YORK Appearing on Donny Deutsch's CNBC show, "The Big Idea," on Monday night, columnist/author Ann Coulter suggested that the U.S. would be a better place if there weren't any Jewish people and that they had "perfected" themselves into -- Christians.
It led Deutsch to suggest that surely he couldn't mean that, and when she insisted she did, he said this sounded "anti-Semitic."
Asked by Deutsch regarding whether she wanted to be like "the head of Iran" and "wipe Israel off the Earth," Coulter stated: "No, we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say. ... That's what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament."
Where are the 'Viners that love Ann Coulter now?
I love Ann Coulter, but once more, she has stepped in the poo. It seems to be happening with increasing frequency lately.
I'm working on an "open letter to Ann Coulter" which I will try to post on Newsvine in the next few days. I'm writing it, but it still needs to be ... ah ... perfected. ;-)
And, it will be fairly critical, so y'all can hold the flames.
Tom, my friend, I'm looking forward to your Coulter article.
I love Ann Coulter, but once more, she has stepped in the poo...
Bad-mouthing the boss when he's standing right behind you is "stepping in poo". Being a hateful, white-supremecist, bigot is a complete ethical cluster@!$%#. Please don't pretend this is just some minor mistake on her part.

Can you imagine the (rightful) outcries if a left-leaning person had uttered the words Coulter did? All we'd be hearing is how the left is anti-Semitic. What is with the "well, I agree with her politics, so it's not so bad" justifications?
Its a kind of torture The Jones Girl, Its OK when they do it.
Please don't pretend this is just some minor mistake on her part.
Hey, Obleo, why don't you wait for my article before you start pontificating about what I might or might not say, OK? Also, you may want to re-read my note:
And, it will be fairly critical, so y'all can hold the flames.
What she said is not hate. She misspoke. As Dennis Praeger, Jewish radio talk-show host said Friday, she meant "Jews need to be completed." I.e., The Jews need to convert to Christianity. This isn't hatred, its like the accepting the flow from the Old Testament to the New Testament. Although he doesn't agree, he did not see the statement as hate-filled.
Hey, Obleo, why don't you wait for my article before you start pontificating about what I might or might not say, OK?
I was commenting on what you did say and not on what you might say. I certainly didn't preface my opinion with some quote I ripped from the space-time continuum. But if the article you intend to write continues the thought that this is just some silly faux pas and not unfettered madness about how the Jews need reprogramming because they don't worship the Magical Cloud Yoda correctly I'm not sure I'll be attending.
People need to be free to worship as they see fit... with some exceptions. No, I'm not saying it's appropriate to praise the Lord via baby molestation but to say only the Christians do it correctly when even they can't all agree upon what's right and wrong in His eyes is blatantly sinful pride. Ann might have good intentions but we all know what road that more often than not paves.
People need to be free to worship as they see fit... with some exceptions.
Nope. People need to be free to worship as they see fit, as long as they're not infringing on someone else's rights. Period. It doesn't matter if they're bigoted @!$%#s who think the Church of the Divine Sandal is the One True Religion, and take the opportunity to say so on national TV. Sure it's blatantly sinful pride, but I'd rather know who the crazies are than have them sneaking up on me in the dark.
Is Ann flatly wrong to say that Jews need "perfecting" so that they can become just like Christians? Obviously. It's not a minor faux pas, it's a revelation of how she feels, and how she feels is that Christians are superior to everyone else. We already knew that she feels this way. What was a little less clear is that she would feel free to tell a practicing Jew to his face that he's a liar about his practice of religion and that, regardless, his religion is wrong. I'm sure those of us who were of the opinion that Ann is a tactless bigot already guessed this.
And sorry, Larry, but she did not "misspeak." Dennis Praeger may think he knows what Ann "really meant," but that's his opinion and his spin, not what she said nor how she clarified it when given the chance. The hubris that allows Ann to think that everyone who doesn't accept her faith is going to Hell may be common, it may even not be a "hate-filled" belief, but coming from the mouth of someone who has already opined that Muslims need to be converted to Christianity at the point of a gun, it's hard to conclude that it isn't bigoted bull@!$%#.
Oh, and I wanted to add:
Here's an example of someone who will, with no sense of irony whatsoever, blast atheists and agnostics for "attacking" Christianity. Because, naturally, Ann Coulter has "the truth" and everyone else is wrong. And yet, Ann has zero problem with attacking a co-religionist on the basis that the fellow has the "wrong" religion. Apparently tolerance toward religion is only important when it is tolerance toward her religion. All other religions are fair game.
Which means that she implicitly buys Sam Harris' argument that all religions everywhere are equally fair game, because she has the same attitude-- except he takes it one religion further than she does.
Somehow I think the logic of that would be totally lost on her.
I was commenting on what you did say and not on what you might say.
Not really, Obleo. And then you pontificated and insulted again in #27.9, just to prove it.
Feel free to continue to pontificate alone as I am de-tracking.
As I said, I will write an article criticizing Ann Coulter from the point of view of a conservative who has admired her in the past and takes great issue with her current direction. This point of view will be somewhat more pointed and unique than what has been offered by "the typical leftist" who has always loathed her and simply responded in a knee-jerk fashion to her philosophy.
"People need to be free to worship as they see fit... with some exceptions."
Nope. People need to be free to worship as they see fit, as long as they're not infringing on someone else's rights. Period.
That would be called an "exception".

Taking your toys and going home? Well, thanks for playing. But I did directly quote you and comment about your terrible analogy made in this very article. So unless the dictionary is the latest victim of liberal bias I didn't comment on what you might say.
Too bad you decided that you needed to hide from the rest of this debate.
That would be called an "exception".
And would be singular in nature, and the only exception that ever need be considered. Not plural, not subjectively based on whether someone external to the religion liked the practice, or respected it, or believed the religion was useful in some way. Any other approach is inconsistent with the concept of religious liberty.
Fine. You win.
You mean being "perfected" means being more like Ms Coulter? I think I'll pass on that.
I'm guessing the method involves some sort of camp were we can assemble large concentrations for reprocessing.
An Coulter is a camp - in the drag queeny sense of the word.
Don Imus gets fired, yet Ann Coulter continues to get the coverage and negative attention that she craves??
Stop giving her air time!
Sickens me :P
Well, Don Imus seems to me always that he was drunk or in tra la la, la la land, Ann Coulter a broken record player.
Michael Moore is a humanist and a humorist, working a long-standing beat that includes Mark Twain (head of the Anti-Imperialist League during the Philippine War). Ann Coulter spews hatred that is funny to a certain kind of Limbaugh/Cheney Republican, which says more about how sick that mindset is.
I don't see the comparison. Anybody who has watched Sicko can see the sweetness and populism of Moore's vision. Oh, maybe not the people who love doing things like Swift-boating 12-year-olds injured in car accidents, but you know, normal people.
See, this is why the equivalence discussion IS important. Michael Moore SEETHS with hatred. He's just your hater; he hates what you hate, so it's transparent to you. You think he's sweety, a "humanist and a humorist." Yeah, he's a real charmer. Mark Twain could do sarcasm with charm; Michael Moore is nothing more than a ham-handed bully.
Ann Coulter's hatreds are from the other side of the political spectrum, so her humor is lost on you and the underlying anger shines through. It's no different than Moore's humor, it's just aimed the other way. She's a bully, he's a bully: they both have issues, and they're not alone.
As an aside, having read her "perfecting Jews" interview, you have to understand that this is not an Ann Coulter thing. This is what evangelical Christians believe. She did not advocate forcibly converting anyone; she hoped that they would be 'perfected' by accepting Christ. I personally find this religious stuff poop and nonsense, but you need to consider that you are persecuting her in this forum for her religious beliefs. Chew on THAT for a minute.
Long, Ann's words were clear--she thinks the ideal society is one with no Jews. No matter how it is parsed, that was highly anti-semitic and just plain hate speech.
This is what evangelical Christians believe.
Sorry folks, this is the truth. Ann Coulter is just saying it out loud.

What about the Christians who have posted on this article who do not believe that Jews need to be completed or perfected? Not all people who believe in Jesus think this way.
However, there are lots of people who will not try to understand others perspectives, and they miss out on the opportunity to appreciate the strengths of a different belief system. It can be an amazing journey. Too many Christians do fall into that category.
See, this is what I would consider an anti-semitic remark, but it isn't even brought up... Yet constructive criticisms often are criticized for being anti-semitic. What gives? She is talking down, so to speak to the Jewish people, she is perfect as a Christian, they are not as Jews.
Check the tags.
The tags are fine, I am curious about the comments.
I think it's so self evident that it went without saying.
I have noticed that Ann Coulter's audiences refrain from wearing their white hoods & cloaks when the media is present.

Allow to your thoughts that many of us think that Ann Coulter is very loud.
Only gentlemen in all the political parties agree that she has long legs and like to show them on TV.
Ann Coulter...making controversial and inflammatory remarks...what a surprise!
/sarcasm
Ann Coulter is one of the most vile & repugnant media/authors; whatever around. She has done this sort of thing time & time again especially just before she is having a book come out. It is all about money, no morals, convictions whatever sells is her game.
Donnie boy knew all this before he had her on his show so it is hard to find any sympathy for him other than what she said is one of the most wrong and revolting things she has done yet.
However, you know what you are getting when you invite her to speak.
bac,
It was not hard to figure it out that you don't like the lady.
Dennis seeded an article by Ann Coulter and gets the votes and comments. What's the difference?
No, I seeded a news item about Ann Coulter making an outrageous, offensive, antisemitic statement, and I resent the accusation that I did otherwise.
I have noticed that editors and producers are rarely called to task for irresponsible choices. They get let off at ratings and "hey, that's the market...".
Are the margins so close that if a segment goes terribly awry, it doesn't have to be shown? Don't these shows have any "evergreen" shows in the files?
These talking heads and their minders know exactly what they are doing, even if I don't.
1. Follow the money. These people are making money, dough, moolah, cash. Isn't that an American way?
2. They really, truly do believe the coulteresque view of the world; true believers who support millennialism and evangelical Christianity .
3. They're turd-polishing greed heads. They're eeeeeevillll!
Correction:
Dennis seeded an article about Ann Coulter and gets the votes and comments.
Det, I'd appreciate you not trolling in my column.

This statement by Ann Coulter was sensationalism...and offense (and I suspect she does this sort of thing intentionally...its a way of getting attention). Never the less...that fact that she did this, no matter how sensational, and no matter how much it was in poor taste ...is still news.
There are many sensational, attention grabbing things happening from time to time. Recently, I read about a terrorist attack on children in Iraq. The story is attention-grabbing...and horrific. But...it is news...and should be reported. (Certainly the fact that if its seeded on NV it might get a lot of votes..is no reason not to seed it).
hopefully Coulter will vacation in Europe and get arrested in germany for hate crimes
Mr. McCann
Det, I'd appreciate you not trolling in my column.
Well, isn't that precious?
Look. I don't play those games. If you want to talk about the remark Coulter made, fine. If not, why are you here? Surely you can find other columns in which to occupy your time.

I stand for what I posted, an analogy.
What I meant is that Ann Coulter writes and speak outrageous stuff for being invited to TV shows and helps to sale her books.
May I have my vote back, then? Thank you.
determined,
I apologize for my rudeness in comment 36.1.
Please don't come into my column and accuse me of seeding something just to get votes or comments. I know there are people on Newsvine who do that, but I am not one of them.
Apologies accepted.
